Victoria Topping is a Bath based artist who creates prints and original work inspired by her love of colour and music.
Using a collection of photos, textures and mark making that Victoria has uploaded to the computer she begins to construct an image. The aim is to build up texture and colour, which ends up in hundreds of layers. Once the images are finished on the computer she prints them out using a large format digital printer in her studio. Unsatisfied with it being a flat print she then likes to work back in to it adding gold leaf and drawing. Victoria also applies this method to her canvases by printing out textures and photographic elements and constructing them on to a canvas to then layer with paint and glazes.
Victoria has also worked on the artwork for an independent record label, designed bespoke wallpapers, hand painted murals, completed interior design work including installing a record shop as well as the artwork for several festivals. Her work has found its way on to a successful greetings card range and even on to a lavish bottle of French wine. Above all her favourite thing is to create and sell her prints and original works.
Victoria draws inspiration from her passion for music, especially jazz, soul, funk, disco and world music. This vibrant scene has given her an everlasting source of joy and focus. She collects records and any visual snapshots she can find of the musicians and dancers she admires, from her favourite avant jazz composer Sun-Ra right through to her favourite disco star Sylvester, and even dipping in to the colour palette of Soul Train.
