Helen & Fred Gordon
Mother and son duo Helen and Fred Gordon are Somerset based artists who work individually and together on their sculptural work. When working together they often focus on a pair of animals such as the piece entitled 'Stilts' with Fred working on the left giraffe and Helen working on the right.
Helen was born in Warwickshire and moved to the West Country to read European Studies at The University of Bath in 1981. In 1994, Helen set up home with her family in Chew Valley, where Helen remains’ to this day. For the past ten years her focus has been sculpting, which Helen happened upon when she agreed to accompany a friend on a ceramics course for one afternoon a week at The Bristol School of Art. Helen was instantly hooked and she has not looked back.
Fred successfully achieved a merit in his foundation diploma in Art and Design at Falmouth University and went on to study at Edinburgh University reading a 4 year combined honours degree in History of Art and French. His sculptural pieces came from various experiments with clay. Watching thousands of You Tube Videos on the subject, he then attended a two day course and was fortunate enough to secure work experience with Mark Coreth, Master Sculptor in Animals. Fred has secured various awards for his work with his 'Girls' Night Out' accepted for The RWA 2012 open exhibition in Bristol. He also won first prize for his sculpture at the Bath and West annual art exhibition.
