| Sarah's alphabet prints are initially 'cut' in scraperboard, - a chalky white board covered in a layer of black india ink. The design is produced by scraping the black away to reveal the white board beneath. It has been used since the 1930s archetypically for illustrations in the old black and white Radio Times magazine. The effect is similar to wood engraving -fine detail, tightly controlled design but with a crispness of line. Sarah is a printmaker and illustrator. As a printmaker she makes black and white and full colour block prints in her Brighton studio. As an illustrator she works for many book, magazine and card publishers and design companies. Her scraperboard work has been published for several years such as House and Garden. These prints are produced by taking a litho plate direct from the original and then printed on a small press. The paper is a high quality cotton, acid free paper. |
