SIMON PALMER |
|||
| English watercolorist, Simon Palmer was born in the north of England 1956. Studying illustration and graphic design at Reigate School Of Art he was encouraged by his tutors to pursue landscape painting. Simon lived and worked in Kent for a while before returning to the North of England. He finds the scenery and the people from home a vital source of inspiration. He draws heavily on his north Yorkshire locality for his paintings, which are part topographical and part fantasy, often with multi layered narratives. Simon works in flat areas of interlocking colour, creating an effect of collage, which forces the eye to look deeper. There is a quality in the hidden narratives and quirky perspectives of his pictures that is quintessentially English. The tonal qualities of William Morris are recalled in his muted earthy hues and a calm tendency towards surrealism reminiscent of Stanley Spencer is evident in the unfathomable situations he represents. Simon is a highly accomplished specialist watercolour artist. His work is also available in limited edition silkscreens published by CCA. Simon's work is held in numerous collections in Europe, USA and Japan. He has undertaken private works and commissions including paintings for the National Trust at Sissinghurst and at Salt’s Mill, Saltaire in England. |
