JANE ORMES

Much of Jane’s day is spent mulling the attractive qualities of Daniel Craig and custard slices. In between times she makes delightful and whimsical limited edition Silkscreen Print prints.

Born in 1964 Jane has always been a creative person. Her first recognition as an artist was when she was 5 or 6 winning a prize at primary school. Since then her achievements have been many including award winning design work for Greenpeace and the Design Council’s Young designers. She has been commissioned by Marks and Spencer, Dorling Kindersley and Oxford University Press amongst others. Jane has taught and exhibited regularly in group and solo shows since graduating in the late 80’s.

Her work is highly praised for its blend of cute characters, colours and sense of humour. We don’t know at this stage if Daniel Craig approves of the print dedicated to his Bond pants!

Screenprints, also known as serigraphs or silk-screen prints, are printed using a screen made from fine fabric, generally silk, stretched over a frame. The non-printing areas are blocked off with a filler or stencil using a hand-painted or photographic image. The open areas of the mesh will print the image. The paper is placed beneath the screen and the ink is pulled across the screen using a rubber blade. The ink, passing through the open mesh of the screen is deposited on the paper below.

Silkscreen Print is a great technique for creating bold flat areas of colour. Although printmaking can be lengthy and highly labour intensive Silkscreen Print printing gives a very immediate quality that belies the preparation that has gone into creating an artwork.
