It is with great sadness that the directors of Rostra and Rooksmoor galleries confirm that Donald Hamilton Fraser RA passed away on the 2nd September 2009. We are proud to have worked with him and he will be greatly missed.

Donald Hamilton Fraser was of Scottish descent but born in London in 1929. He studied painting at St. Martin’s School of Art and then in Paris with a French Government Scholarship. He taught at the Royal College of Art as tutor and then Fellow from 1958 - 1983. He was a Royal Academician and exhibited regularly at The Royal Academy, London, since 1975.

His chosen subject matter was predominantly landscape, with the emphasis upon colour and surface texture which he felt reflected the affinity that exists between Scottish and French painting. His own early contacts with the post - war Ecole de Paris confirmed this kinship for him, providing perhaps the most significant and formative influence in the development of his work.

Donald’s work is exhibited throughout the UK and around the world. His work is represented in major public collections including the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, The National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa and the Arts Council of Great Britain.
