CHARLOTTE CORNISH

To approach Charlotte’s images is to enter an exciting world of colour and movement. She draws inspiration from personal experiences that have encouraged her to closely reassess her own life, together with travels to locations such as Macau.

Although the work takes a ‘realistic’ starting point, its execution and final resolution becomes an abstracted process with the concerns of the medium taking on equal importance. The choice of composition, the interaction of different colours, the transparency of paint and the choice of application process becomes as much a part of her finished piece as the original subject matter.

Her work combines vivid colour with a sense of movement captured and frozen in time. Translucent layered tones move across and to the edge of each print or painting to create this effect, together with an immense feeling of depth and space.

Charlotte graduated from the University of Brighton with a Bachelor’s Degree in Printmaking in 1990. Since then her work has been included in a number of public and private collections. She has also had successful one-man shows and has participated in a number of mixed exhibitions.
