SUSIE BROOKS |

| Susie Brooks was born in Malmesbury, Wiltshire in 1969 and is an artist and printmaker. Susie originally trained as an illustrator, completing her Honours Degree in 1991. In the years following her graduation her work was commissioned widely for publishing, it was used for a range of purposes including magazine editorials and book jackets. But Susie's love for printmaking eventually took over and after completing her Masters Degree in printmaking in 2001 she has pursued a successful career from selling her original hand-made prints through galleries and collectors. Susie works predominantly in silkscreen, which suits her love of flat colour giving a fresh contemporary feel to her work. Each colour is mixed by hand and requires a separate piece of artwork and a separate coated screen which the ink is then pushed through using a squeegee onto the paper below. It is a highly labour intensive process and is a technical craft that is learnt by practice and patience. Original prints are not copies of a painting or a drawing - they are made as you see them by the artist and do not exist in any other format. After the full edition has been produced the screens are washed off so no more prints can be made. Susie's work has proved very popular with early editions already sold out. |
