PAULINE VINCENT

Pauline Vincent studied at the Central School of Art and Design in London and went on to teach art for many years after this. She became senior lecturer at the Froebel Institute in Roehampton, London, teaching degree students painting, textiles and art history (colour theory). Whilst teaching she had regular exhibitions in London of paintings inspired by her travels in Greece.

The Greek islands have always provided Pauline with great source material, but she has also produced work in Spain, Africa and Turkey. In 1992 she left Froebel Institute and in 1994 moved to Cornwall where she began painting in the local quarries, as well as in her moorland garden, and the lost gardens of Heligan.

Her interest and collections of world textiles has always informed her paintings and she enjoys weaving and appliqué, and more recently making paper. Pauline has been involved in many community projects and in Cornwall she set up a scrap store to inspire children and adults to work with scrap materials, to encourage re-cycling.

In 1996 she travelled with a group of artists to go and work with the tribal artists of Orissa. The following year she went to Nepal, where she has returned many times to paint and collect paper, and has been involved in helping a women’s paper project.

Pauline moved her studio up to Leominster where she showed paper works at the Hereford Craft Fair and paintings of Nepal at the Hay Festival. In 2000 she returned to London, where she continues to paint, sew, weave, make paper and travel. Pauline has just returned from India, which has provided her with a new wealth of inspiration for colour.
