JENNY COLLINS

Jenny Studied Fine Art at Cheltenham, where she specialised in painting - graduating in 1988. During this time her work was selected for the John Player (now BP) Portrait Award at the National Portrait Gallery in London. She returned to painting in 1996 and now exhibits regularly in Britain and abroad.

Jenny's work focuses mainly on landscapes, real and imagined. She is interested in creating atmosphere and a sense, for the viewer, of familiarity with her subjects. Jenny also enjoys exploring the dramatic relationship between the land and the sky, drawing the viewer into spaces that are empty and expansive. Recently she has been focusing more intimately on the things within the landscape.

Jenny Says of her work:

'The dramatic relationship between the land and sky continues to be the main focus of my work. I allow the sky to dominate the space to create the feeling of expansiveness and use colour and light to intensify the sense of mood and drama. Trees and sheep in my landscapes continue to fascinate me for their gentleness, humour and character, while at the same time providing a sense of scale.'

While many of her paintings are completed outside, Jenny prefers to work in the studio, where she combines photography, drawing and imagination to develop and control the particular character and moods of her pictures.

Jenny has exhibited in Cheltenham, Par in Cornwall, Broadway, Devizes and Bath.
