| Theo's background is in engineering, boat restoration and photography which has provided him with an excellent foundation for what is now his first love, that of painting. Using mainly acrylic on board he portrays the characters in the paintings very solidly with a strong and definite use of line and intense block colour that take their initial inspiration from Theo's observations of the way in which people interact with each other and behave. Having taken up painting initially as a hobby and completely from scratch, Theo now paints full time and has exhibited with much success here in Bath. Artists who Theo has great respect for and who he feels have informed the way in which he works include William Roberts, Tamara de Lempicka, Ludvig Kirchner, Picasso and Modigliani. He counts "The Geranium" by Max Weber as one of his favourite paintings. |
