This year Rostra Gallery celebrates its 10 year anniversary - no mean feat for an independent business! Now joined on George Street by sister gallery Rooksmoor to form Rostra & Rooksmoor Galleries, we will be holding special events and exhibitions throughout 2008. Join us to celebrate some of our favourite artists from the past 10 years and introduce more inspired and incredible talent to take us into our next decade.

Former Bristol artist, Theo Booth is one of Rostra & Rooksmoor’s longest serving painters with a number of sell out solo shows to his name. He returns this February to wow us with his new collection of paintings. Colin Chetwood is a designer maker of sculptural lighting. His flower lamps are a striking statement for the living room or bedroom.

Hailing originally from Macedonia, Zani, (pronounced Yani), is an artist with an exceptional wealth of inspiration and energy that she devotes to her painting. Combining all types of media from leather, sand and acrylic paint to asphalt, grass and hemp, her paintings are decidedly attractive and thought provoking.

Rostra reinvents itself for this month only with an exhibition of brand new artists who bring the vibrancy and energy of big city living to their art and to the gallery. Be challenged by the bold use of colour and creative subject matter.

We’ll be presenting a whole range of talent from Royal Academicians to emerging names. Anna Marrow, Peter Blake RA, Christina Hazell, Gail Mason and Charlotte Cornish exhibit their art.

ENCHANTING PLACES

6 ^th  -  27 ^th  APRIL 2007

Rostra and Rooksmoor Galleries present a group exhibition of artists whose work inhabits a magical world of inventiveness. It is a show that opens the doors of imagination to a cast of dancing wolves, Noah’s Ark, enchanted woodland animals and outlandish lighting. If you like fantastical and delightful characters, visit the gallery this April. A reminder that life isn’t all about work and reality TV.

PHIL GREENWOOD SPECIAL

2 ^nd  -  16 ^th  MARCH 2007

This spring we are very excited to be showing a spectacular collection of works by Phil Greenwood, an artist whom has been at the forefront of printmaking in this country for the past 40 years. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers, Phil’s etchings are a vibrant testimony to the skill and vision of an artist whose mastery of the medium has enabled him to create a totally unique evocation of the living world. Simply, these are bold, pretty and desirable images. His work is ravenously collected and is part of the prestigious Tate Gallery collection. Supply has proved to outstrip demand as editions have started to sell out. We are especially excited to have aquired 2 copies of the extremely rare and popular ‘Blossom’ print that will be for sale in the exhibition. Come to the preview evening to ensure the best selection.

IAN SHEARMAN:  LANDSCAPES

A former regular at the Rooksmoor Gallery, Ian Shearman returns after a year spent painting and sketching around his Gloucestershire home and his second love, Cornwall. Ian is a master at capturing a landscape in any weather be it blustery Autumnal days or fresh Spring sunshine across the sea.

Come and meet Ian on 2nd March between 6  -  7.30pm. Talk to him about his art and enjoy a glass of wine.

TREVOR PRICE SOLO SHOW

2 ^nd  -  16 ^th  FEBRUARY 2007

Long awaited exhibition of new original paintings and prints from one of Rostra’s favourite artists. Trevor's subject matter in some way is a reflection of his life. The Cornwall, and chiefly St. Ives connection, naturally comes through in Trevor's work. Some of the pieces are about the intimacy between a couple, and others show the normal obsessions of any man. Trevor was elected a member of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers in 2000 and awarded the Julian Trevelyan Outstanding Printmaker award in 2002.

PAULINE VINCENT:  NEW PAINTINGS

This exhibition by London painter, Pauline Vincent promises to banish February blues with her riotous palette of colours inspired by her travels in India, Tibet and working with Children’s workshops. One of our best selling artists, Pauline has had numerous solo shows across Britain. She returns to Rooksmoor with brand new canvasses depicting domestic still lives with textiles and souvenirs collected from her travels.

HEIDI KONIG

Banish the winter blues by visiting Rostra’s vibrant, bold and colourful exhibition of abstract canvases and etchings by esteemed British printmaker, Heidi König. Inspired by walks across India & Morrocco, travel is the most important inspiration for Heidi’s creativity and she makes regular trips overseas to encounter new people and cultures first hand. Each piece conveys a sensual picture of where she has been and what she has experienced.

Heidi has been the recipient of numerous awards for her outstanding etchings and monoprints and her work is avidly collected across the globe.

JURGEN GORG

Also on show - original paintings and sculpture by Jurgen Gorg. Gorg’s impact on the European art scene has been little short of sensational. Much imitated, but never bettered, his technical skill and his ability to reproduce the moving figure so sensitively, make his work irresistible to his many collectors. Visit early as last years exhibition sold out.
